MONTREAL — Calling it a Quebec first, Quebecor’s Videotron announced today the introduction of the Helix Fi 2 smart gateway (above) which uses Wi-Fi 6 technology, marking the first time the latest generation of Wi-Fi has been made available to customers in the province, the company says.

With the new Wi-Fi 6 standard’s support for more concurrent connections and faster connectivity speeds, the Helix Fi 2 gateway can be used as “the new hub of Videotron subscribers’ connected lives”, providing connectivity for TV terminals, wireless devices and compatible smart equipment, says the company’s press release.

“The smart wireless network constantly optimizes itself for the currently connected devices in order to provide the best possible connection for each user,” reads the release.

Available now, the Helix Fi 2 gateway uses the 2, 4 and 5 GHz bands to enable the wireless network to pass through barriers and provide seamless connection everywhere in the home, says the release.

The Helix Fi app provides an easy way to manage and customize the Wi-Fi network and connected devices, even remotely, adds the release. An advanced security feature, which is activated by default when logging into the Helix Fi app on a mobile device or the web, protects the network against cyberthreats at all times, according to Videotron.
