MONTREAL – The short list of TV veterans has been whittled down to three for the position of executive vice-president, French services at the CBC, sources have told Cartt.ca.

While no final decision has yet been taken, we have learned that former TVA executive Philippe Lapointe and former Rogers exec Marc Blondeau are in the running, as is CRTC commissioner Michel Morin.

Morin (right) has over three decades of experience as a journalist with Radio-Canada and was chief editor, television news, for Radio-Canada and RDI from 2003 to 2004. He was appointed CRTC commissioner in 2007 and his term is due to come to an end in the summer of 2012.

Lapointe (left) is currently president of Montreal-based independent producer Productions Pixcom, a company he’s been with since 2006. Prior to that, Lapointe held various senior positions with Quebecor-owned broadcaster TVA, including senior VP of the broadcaster and prior to that, VP programming. He also spent three years in the 1990s at Radio-Canada as head of television news.

Blondeau (right) is currently working as a consultant as president of D5 Strategies and before that spent nine years at Rogers Communications’ Quebec magazine publishing arm, departing at the end of 2009 as senior vice-president. Prior to his time at Rogers, Blondeau was VP of information and public affairs at Groupe TVA. He is also on the board of directors of the National Theatre School.

The CBC declined to comment on where they are in their selection process or who is in the running but acknowledged a decision will come “within a few weeks,” according to a spokesperson.

“The hiring process is following its normal course,” was the Corp’s official response. “No decision has been made and there is no imminent announcement scheduled for the permanent replacement of Sylvain Lafrance.”

As we reported, the long-serving executive officially departs at the end of October.
