WINDSOR, Ont. — Telus announced today it has been selected by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association of Canada (APMA) as the exclusive provider of 5G connectivity for the all-Canadian zero-emission concept vehicle Project Arrow.

Described in a Telus email announcement as “Canada’s first fully electric, zero emission vehicle designed, engineered and built in Canada, by Canadians, with Canadian suppliers,” the Project Arrow prototype (right) was unveiled during APMA’s annual conference held today in Windsor, Ont.

“The concept vehicle will be taken on tour across North America beginning in 2023 to showcase the very best in Canadian technology,” reads Telus’ announcement.

“As part of this groundbreaking initiative, TELUS has been selected as the exclusive provider of 5G connectivity to help enable next generation services such as vehicle telematics, infotainment and driver assistance services that will make travel more comfortable and easier, while increasing road safety,” the email says.

This announcement reinforces “the company’s leadership in connected vehicles, and its commitment to building better outcomes and a more sustainable future for Canadians,” it adds.

“By leveraging its world-leading networks and emerging technologies like 5G, TELUS is spearheading innovations in the connected vehicle industry that support our economy and deliver a healthier, greener future for our communities. It’s a step forward in its commitment to using 100 per cent renewable energy by 2025, and becoming a zero-waste, net carbon-neutral company by 2030.”

This partnership with APMA “is another achievement in TELUS’ journey to bring superior connectivity to everyone in Canada and enable the next wave of 5G capabilities, such as multi-access edge computing (MEC) and network slicing, further advancing Internet of Things (IoT) and enabling important innovations for businesses and sectors to contribute to a healthier, safer and more sustainable world.”

From 2000 through 2021, Telus has invested $220 billion nationally in network infrastructure, operations and spectrum, the email says, adding the company plans to invest an additional $70 billion in infrastructure, operations and spectrum through 2026.
