TORONTO — Canadian smartphone/tablet repair company Mobile Klinik announced Monday it has been acquired by Telus, but will continue to operate as an independent business division. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Mobile Syrup was first to report this story.
Since opening its first store in Ottawa in September 2015, Mobile Klinik has expanded to 80 stores in eight provinces. The smartphone repair chain has been on an acquisition spree itself this past year, acquiring Fonelab in January 2020 and Device Care in July 2019. In 2017, Mobile Klinik acquired mobilFIX and Dr. Mobile to expand into Alberta.
The Telus transaction “will help us to grow even bigger and stronger, and do that faster, securing our position as the largest and fastest-growing smartphone repair business in Canada,” says a Mobile Klinik statement emailed to Cartt.ca.
“Our business focus will remain what it has always been: to provide all Canadians (businesses and individuals), all carriers, all manufacturers and insurance companies, with top-quality smartphone and tablet repair, care, sales and services,” says the Mobile Klinik statement.
In a separate statement emailed to Cartt.ca, Telus says the acquisition builds on its strategy of putting customers first “by offering Canadians more options to buy, maintain and protect their mobile devices and highlights the importance of trusted, professional repair as an essential part of providing excellent customer service.”
Mobile Klinik was originally founded by former Rogers Wireless head Rob Bruce, former Wind Mobile CEO Ken Campbell and AZ Wireless’s Alain Adam and Naaman Zorub.
