Summer programming revealed, too
MONTREAL — Broadcaster and music service provider Stingray Group today announced it has acquired Calm Radio, the world’s largest music streaming service focused on wellness and relaxation content.
Founded in 2009, Calm Radio delivers 500 free channels of relaxation, acoustic, classical, jazz, ambient and contemporary music via its app, as well as more than 1,000 premium HD channels of calming sounds, sleep music, sleep stories, guided meditations and meditation music.
According to Stingray’s press release, Calm Radio has more than one million unique monthly users and more than 30,000 streaming subscribers.
Stingray says Calm Radio complements its existing Stingray Music and Stingray Naturescape services. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The company expects “this strategic acquisition to deepen our presence worldwide with its premium life-enhancing and relaxing music offering,” said Eric Boyko, president, co-founder and CEO of Stingray, in the press release.

In a separate announcement today, Stingray announced its summer collection of more than 100 streaming channels, including a new exclusive channel curated by Grammy award-winning artist Lil Nas X.
Some of the channels in Stingray Music’s Summer Collection include Southern Soul BBQ, Breezy Yacht Rock, Summer Chill, 2021 Summer Hits, Oldies’ Summer, Rock Your Summer, Summer Hits for Working and Summer Workout. In addition, Stingray Music audio TV channels Classic Rock, Hit List, Hot Country, Remember the ’80s, Flashback ’70s and ’90s will feature “Summer Vibes Weekends” all summer long.
Also, through its Rising Stars program which highlights emerging music talent, Stingray Music has added songs on its platform from R&B singer-songwriter Zola Courtney. Songs from her Nothing to Lose EP from last year and the recently launched single “Superstar” can be heard on various channels, including Rising Stars, Funky Pool Party and Alt-Rap Essentials. Courtney will also perform as part of the star-studded “Back to Amy” concert available to livestream on Qello Concerts by Stingray on July 23.
