TORONTO – The senior management shakeup at Shaw Media continues.
The broadcaster confirmed to Cartt.ca on Thursday that Sarah Jane Flynn is set to leave Shaw Media as senior director of original factual content, where she programs for Global Television and specialty channels History, National Geographic Channel and Slice.
A Shaw Media spokesperson said that Flynn will leave the broadcaster "for another opportunity," without saying when and where.
Flynn's TV credits at Shaw Media include reality series like Ice Pilots NWT, Border Security and Yukon Gold, in addition to live events and game event shows like Canada's Walk of Fame Awards and Canada Sings.
Flynn's pending exit follows that of Emily Morgan, senior director of original lifestyle content, who left Shaw Media a few weeks ago after holding that commissioning post for nearly five years.
The recent organizational changes come as the broadcaster looks to get around the digital bend amid a soft Canadian TV advertising climate and as parent Shaw Communications continues to shed cable and satellite TV subscribers as Netflix and other digital options offer more content choices to consumers.
Elsewhere, Tara Ellis left Shaw Media in late April as long-time senior director of original drama content, having programmed scripted fare for channels like Showcase and History Channel. Her departure coincided with Rachel Nelson being promoted to director of drama content at Shaw Media, and Lisa Godfrey being picked for the plum post of head of original content.
Godfrey's new role has her overseeing all Canadian programming for Global and 10 specialty channels, including History, HGTV, Food Network and Slice. Godfrey had worked under both Morgan and Flynn as director of programming and scheduling until her recent promotion. Her rise in the executive suite was made possible by Barb Williams becoming Shaw Media president and Christine Shipton being promoted to chief creative officer at the broadcaster.
