CRAVEN, Sask. — SaskTel announced today it has expanded its 5G wireless network to the Village of Craven, including the grounds where the Country Thunder music festival will take place later this week.

“Delivering lightning fast data speeds, SaskTel’s 5G network will bring a new level of wireless connectivity to residents and businesses in Craven, as well as festival goers,” reads a press release.

Powered by Samsung technology, SaskTel’s 5G network delivers speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second, according to the Crown corporation’s release.

“With the power of 5G at their fingertips, concert goers will be able to stay connected like never before, while Craven residents and businesses will benefit from year-round access to one of the most advanced wireless networks in Canada,” said Don Morgan, the provincial minister responsible for SaskTel, in the release.

“At SaskTel, we recognize the true potential of 5G and are pleased to bring our new network to Craven,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel’s president and CEO. “Being the first community outside of Regina and Saskatoon to receive 5G service, we’re extremely excited to test the network and its capabilities in a unique setting which will help us further develop the technology as we work to expand our 5G network to all corners of the province.”

SaskTel started rolling out its 5G network in Regina in December 2021 and in Saskatoon in March 2022, as we reported here and here.

“The expansion of 5G service to Craven is a direct result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.5 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years,” according to the press release.
