TORONTO – Jorge Fernandes is no longer Rogers Communications’ chief technology and information officer.

While no official announcement has been made, the company’s leadership page on its website indicates Ron McKenzie (above) was made the company’s chief technology and information officer in July 2022. A Rogers spokesperson confirmed the change happened yesterday.

“Rogers can confirm Jorge Fernandes will be stepping step down from his role as Chief Technology and Information Officer,” reads a statement from the spokesperson. “Effective immediately, Ron McKenzie becomes Chief Technology and Information Officer.”

The change comes nearly two weeks after Rogers networks went down across the country.

Fernandes had been Rogers’ CTO since 2018 when he took over from Bob Berner, who retired at the end of 2017.

McKenzie comes to the role from his previous position with the company as president of Rogers for Business, which he took on in June 2021, according to his bio on Rogers’ website. Before this, he led the company’s technical operations.

McKenzie, who has over 30 years of experience in technology and telecom, spent over a decade at Shaw Communications before joining Rogers.

He has a BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto and attended Harvard’s CTAM Executive Management programs, his bio says.

McKenzie is also currently secretary of the board of directors of the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers.
