TORONTO — Rogers today launched a new Wi-Fi 6E modem, saying its the first major provider to do so and saying the offering makes the fastest Wi-Fi speeds available that more than doubles the bandwidth of the previous generation.
“Select customers in areas across Ontario, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland can now take advantage of the new Wi-Fi modem for the best in-home Wi-Fi experience that will revolutionize how they game, stream and connect, now and in the future,” reads a Rogers press release.
Rogers also announced its new Ignite Internet service offering 8 Gbps symmetrical speeds is now available for pre-order.
“Pushing the boundaries of what is possible is core to Rogers innovation and with the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E along with our premium Ignite Internet with 8 Gbps symmetrical speeds, customers will have access to the world’s most powerful Wi-Fi technology available — the first of any major provider in Canada — and Canada’s fastest Internet speeds,” said Robert Dépatie, president and chief operating officer of home and business at Rogers, in the release.
Rogers announced back in April it had successfully completed lab tests and customer trials of 8 Gbps symmetrical speeds on its fibre network, saying its 8 Gbps Ignite Internet service would start rolling out to customers this summer.
Earlier this month, Bell announced it would launch 8 Gbps symmetrical Internet service this fall, starting in select areas of Toronto and followed by a rollout in other regions of Canada. Bell also said its new Giga Hub modem with Wi-Fi 6E capability will be available this fall for customers initially in Ontario and Quebec and later in other provinces.
