MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — The Ontario Association of Broadcasters (OAB) today announced details of the programming panel session that will take place during its Connection 2022 conference, being held Oct. 18-19 at the Hyatt Luxe Convention Centre in Mississauga, Ont.
The session “Radio Programming: More with More” will be moderated by John Ongaro, station manager/program director for Acadia Broadcasting in Thunder Bay, and will feature panelists Kolter Bouchard, on-air host at Corus Entertainment, Shannon Burns, on-air host at Virgin Radio, and Tammy Cole, regional program director at Corus Entertainment.
“Disruption and the pandemic have permanently changed how stations are programmed. Revenue challenges, remote broadcasting and how to engage listeners has changed how stations are programmed,” reads an OAB email announcing the panel.
“Gaps in recruiting talent have forced stations to look outside the box for talent and find opportunities for expanded content through influencers. Radio moved into remote broadcast scenarios and not just in our own markets but expanding content across multiple markets across the country.
“Broadcasters are now challenged to find more revenue from digital content and expand content to digital platforms for maximum engagement.
“How do stations navigate investing in new talent when the pool is shallow? How can programming coach announcers to be local, even when they’re not? What are the challenges and benefits to bringing on-air content online?”
Ongaro and the panelists will dive into these topics, discussing what has changed and how to find successful engagement on and off the air, the email says.
