OTTAWA and QUEBEC CITY — The federal government announced today $289,000 in Universal Broadband Fund (UBF) money has been awarded to Bell Canada to bring high-speed Internet to two rural communities in eastern Ontario, while $10.4 million is being provided through the Canada-Quebec Operation High Speed program to Cogeco to deliver broadband to 12 towns in the Montmagny regional county municipality (RCM) near Quebec City.

The UBF funding, provided through the fund’s rapid response stream, will see Bell deliver high-speed broadband to 601 underserved households in the communities of Crysler and St-Albert, located southeast of Ottawa. Bell is investing an additional $867,000 in the project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

The Quebec project to be undertaken by Cogeco will provide access to high-speed Internet services for 780 homes across the communities of Berthier-sur-Mer, Cap-Saint-Ignace, Lac-Frontière, Montmagny, Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire, Sainte-Apolline-de-Patton, Sainte-Lucie-de-Beauregard, Saint-Fabien-de-Panet, Saint-François-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud, Saint-Just-de-Bretenières, Saint-Paul-de-Montminy, and Saint-Pierre-de-la-Rivière-du-Sud. The project, expected to be completed by Cogeco by September 2022, has a total cost of $11.1 million.
