TORONTO – McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada has signed a multi-platform sponsorship agreement with Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The integrated media activation program extends across various platforms and gives McDonald’s Canada exclusivity in the categories of ‘Hamburger Quick Service Restaurant’ and ‘Breakfast Food Quick Service Restaurant’, the press release said.

“We’re really excited about teaming up with Canada’s Olympic Broadcast Media Consortium to bring the Games to life from coast to coast and engage Canadians like never before,” said Brian O’Mara, McDonald’s Canada CMO, in the release. “McDonald’s will share the spirit of the Games through a multimedia advertising campaign designed to reach consumers through both traditional and non-traditional channels and draw the connection between the values of the McDonald’s brand and those of the Olympic Games.”

McDonald’s involvement with the Olympics began in 1968, when the company airlifted hamburgers to American athletes in Grenoble, France, after they reported being homesick for McDonald’s food.

The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games marks McDonald’s seventh Olympic Games as a sponsor and its eighth as the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games. McDonald’s current sponsorship will continue through the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
