TORONTO — Blue Ant Media announced today The Great Big Tiny Design Challenge, featuring amateur miniature crafters from across Britain, will have its Canadian broadcast premiere exclusively on lifestyle specialty channel Makeful on Nov. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Hosted by “self-confessed enthusiast and collector of miniatures” Sandi Toksvig (above), this eight-episode competition series sees 10 amateur artists put their miniature-making skills to the test “as they transform a derelict mini mansion into the ultimate fantasy house, inspired by real-world designs,” says a press release.
“Dreaming big but building small, the mini makers work in teams to tackle the house room by room, with each room having to be fully furnished in different and stunning periods from history, from Regency to Art Deco. Whether it be tiny tables, toilets, curtains or food, all of the contents made for the house must be functional and shrunk down to a twelfth of their usual size,” the release explains.
World record-holding micro sculptor Dr. Willard Wigan and interior design guru Laura Jackson will judge the competition.
“Each week the finished designs are displayed before the judges and one will be asked to leave the competition until a winner is crowned in the finale, winning a miniature trophy and bragging rights,” the release says.
The Great Big Tiny Design Challenge was commissioned for the U.K.’s More4 by Clemency Green. The series is executive produced by Yeti Television’s creative director Siân Price, and Samuel Simon serves as series producer.
The series was partly funded by production finance broker and distribution agent Silverlining Rights, which has worldwide distribution rights to the show and format.
