LONGUEUIL, Que. — Independent ISP EBOX today announced it will begin offering Internet, telephone and television services in the Abitibi region of Quebec starting this fall.
This could mean Longueuil, Que.-based EBOX will provide Internet services in Abitibi before Videotron expands into the region, which it plans to do, following the CRTC’s ruling which ordered Bell to give Videotron third-party Internet access to its Cablevision du Nord subsidiary network. The decision actually paved the way for any reseller to come in and lease space on the network.
EBOX already operates as a TPIA provider on four national networks and offers services in major centres and surrounding areas in Ontario and Quebec, including Toronto, Burlington, Hamilton, London, Barrie, Ottawa, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Saint-Jérôme, Trois-Rivières and Quebec City. Now, EBOX is looking to increase its market share by expanding service into the Abitibi region. The company serves over 130,000 customers and employs 450, adds its press release (pictured is its coverage map).
“We will initially offer speeds of 15, 50 and 125 Mbps for Internet service as well as our television and telephone services,” said Jean-Philippe Béïque, CEO and co-founder of EBOX, in an English translation of the news release. “We will be newly available in the municipalities of Rouyn-Noranda, Val-d’Or, Lasarre, Malartic as well as La Tuque in Mauricie, among others.”
The services will be available in the fall of 2020.
