Canada’s Walk of Fame last Friday released five short vignettes by emerging Canadian filmmakers of the 2024 Future Storytellers program, each telling the story of one of the most accomplished and notable figures in Canadian achievement.
Presented by founding partner NBCUniversal, Seeing Red and new partner Cineplex, the three-minute vignettes premiered Jan. 31 at canadaswalkoffame.com, with Future Storytellers highlight reels running in Cineplex theatres across the country as part of the pre-show entertainment.
Shot in Toronto in July 2024, the vignettes each showcase the vision of an up-and-coming Canadian filmmaker from Humber Polytechnic or Sheridan College telling the stories of past Canada’s Walk of Fame inductees and honourees. The pairings include world champion figure skater Kurt Browning (2001 inductee) with Humber Polytechnic graduate Nick Tablac; iconic pop rock singer-songwriter Andy Kim (2018 inductee) with Sheridan College graduate Arshia Prajapati; international indigenous rights and water activist Autumn Peltier (2023 Community Hero, program presented by MLSE and Seeing Red) with Humber Polytechnic graduate Anne Hoang; co-creator of iconic Canadian youth culture phenomenon Degrassi Linda Schuyler (2023 inductee) with Humber Polytechnic graduate Yagnam Dhroov; and The Parachute Club lead vocalist/guitarist Lorraine Segato (2023 inductee) and Sheridan College graduate Poppi Fella Pellegrino.
“The Future Storytellers initiative provides an incredible platform to uplift emerging filmmakers, delivering invaluable mentorship from esteemed industry leaders, forging crucial industry connections, and representing diverse voices from underrepresented communities,” Jeffrey Latimer, CEO of Canada’s Walk of Fame, said in a press release. “We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on creative young talents as they share the remarkable journeys of five inspiring Canadians through their own lens.”
The five vignettes are available for viewing here.
