Ericsson on Wednesday announced the launch of the Cradlepoint X20 5G router with network slicing capabilities, enabling service providers to offer differentiated fixed wireless access (FWA) connectivity services to small- and medium-sized businesses.
In addition to plug-and-play FWA 5G connectivity and network slicing, the Cradlepoint X20 features advanced security capabilities and cutting-edge routing, switching and Wi-Fi 7, ensuring “robust, easy-to-maintain connectivity essential for critical business operations,” says an Ericsson press release.
With the X20, enterprises can quickly deploy high-bandwidth 5G connectivity with reliability enabled by dual-SIM failover capabilities and an eight-hour battery backup, the release says. In addition, integration with the Ericsson NetCloud platform delivers cloud management and advanced features, and supports expanded services designed for business, it says.
The X20 router is suitable for a range of business use cases, including small- to medium-sized businesses such as retail stores and small offices, temporary sites such as pop-up stores, mobile clinics and construction sites, and remote workers and home-based businesses, Ericsson says.
“This announcement is yet another example of how Ericsson continues to enable service providers to offer highly differentiated FWA solutions to business customers while monetizing their 5G network investments. The X20 puts service providers in a much better position to support a wide range of business environments,” Justin Blair, vice president of carrier business development for the Americas, enterprise wireless solutions at Ericsson, said in the press release.
“Ericsson’s business FWA solutions play a vital role in enhancing T-Mobile’s managed services, such as Connected Workplace, by enabling reliable, highly secure, fast connectivity with advanced cloud management capabilities,” said Chris Melus, vice president of product management for T-Mobile Business Group. “Our collaboration with Ericsson allows us to deliver scalable and flexible business FWA services that seamlessly adapt to the evolving needs of businesses.”
The Ericsson Cradlepoint X20 5G Router will be available in April 2025. More information about the product is available here.
A year ago, Rogers announced a Canada-first network slicing trial in conjunction with Ericsson that allows for dedicated lanes of traffic on the 5G network, such as for emergency services.
