GRANDE PRAIRIE – Eastlink today will launch its first wireless market outside of Canada’s east when it launches in the western Alberta city of Grande Prairie, today.
Many readers may not realize that Eastlink is the incumbent cable/broadband provider in the city of 63,000 people, or that it purchased spectrum there in the 2500 MHz band in the 2015 auction. The company actually provides wireline service to over 60 western Canadian communities, but Grande Prairie is the only one where it has wireless spectrum. Its new LTE network will serve Grande Prairie as well as the town of Clairmont (pop. 2,100) just north.
The launch today is part of a $4 million expansion of the company’s wireless network to more communities, which includes cities such as New Waterford, Baddeck, Tatamagouche in Nova Scotia; Goulds, Torbay, and Bell Island in Newfoundland/Labrador; Saint John, Fredericton, Shediac and Sussex in New Brunswick; and Chelmsford, Val Therese and Kirkland Lake in Ontario.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished so far having launched and expanded our mobile service into six provinces over the last six years. We have invested more than $4 million in the past year ($1M in Grande Prairie alone),” reads a company statement on the launch today.
Grande Prairie customers can take advantage offers like:

• Nationwide talk and text is included in every plan.
• Families can add additional lines and share data from just $30/month per family member.
