Homeland, Deadpool and The Shape of Water headline list of titles

TORONTO – As announced in December, Disney+ will unveil Star, its new general entertainment brand, inside the Disney+ app this February 23 – and today it announced the slate of content to be available at launch.

Star will launch over 150 TV series and more than 500 movies at launch, increasing to nearly 800 by the end of 2021 which will include more exclusive Star Original content, the company said in a Thursday announcement.

From launch, Disney+ will be the exclusive home of Star Originals. Titles streaming on Disney+ in Canada will include Love, Simon spin-off series Love, Victor and adult animated sitcom Solar Opposites, created by Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan. Other projects premiering throughout 2021 include premium series Only Murders in the Building (starring Hamilton native Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez), Dopesick (starring Will Chase, Rosario Dawson, Jake Dorman and Michael Keaton) and The Dropout (starring Kate McKinnon), as well as new content from the Kardashian Jenners.

Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream older series like Sons of Anarchy, 24, Felicity, The X-Files, Criminal Minds and Family Guy, with more titles added weekly.

Star will also stream 9-1-1 and the spin-off, 9-1-1 Lone Star, starring Rob Lowe, ABC’s Station 19 and The Resident.

Award-winning movies available at launch include Life of Pi, The Favourite, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Grand Budapest Hotel, along with classics such as Alien, Die Hard, The Devil Wears Prada, and Little Miss Sunshine.

Since some of these titles aren’t suitable for kids, new parental controls will launch on February 23, such as the ability to set limits on access to content for specific profiles based on content ratings and the ability to add a PIN to lock profiles with access to mature content.

“Disney+ already offers the world’s greatest stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic, all in one place and now with Star added to the mix in Canadian homes, we are beyond excited to increase the amount of content for Canadians. The added parental controls ensure that older teens and adults will now have access to even more compelling content, all while taking great care to ensure Disney+ remains a secure, family friendly place for all our subscribers,” said Greg Mason, vice-president, marketing, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Canada:

Canadian customers can subscribe to Disney+ with Star for $11.99 per month (which is $3 higher than it has been), or $119 annually. Current prices for existing subscribers (prior to February 23) will be honoured for six months, with the price change taking effect on the monthly or annual renewal date following August 22, 2021, says the release.

Star on Disney+ will also be available in the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany Italy, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Denmark, plus Australia and New Zealand, beginning February 23.
