Canadian brand incubator and management group Statement Worldwide announced Wednesday the official launch of POP! Canada, a new digital media platform dedicated to showcasing and amplifying Canadian music, film, TV, arts and culture.

“Amid a shifting media landscape, POP! Canada is committed to providing a space where homegrown talent is recognized and celebrated, ensuring that Canadian storytelling remains vibrant and accessible,” says a Statement Worldwide press release.

The launch of POP! Canada comes as media consolidation continues and legacy outlets shutter, which has created undeniable challenges for the Canadian entertainment and media industry, the release says.

“The Canadian media landscape is at a crossroads, but that doesn’t mean we should stop building platforms for homegrown talent,” Matthew Celestial, president and CEO of Toronto-based Statement Worldwide, said in the press release. “Over the past two years, we’ve witnessed the closure of many storied Canadian media outlets, reducing opportunities for artists and creators to have their work showcased. We believe in challenging this reality. We remain committed to fostering a thriving media ecosystem that champions Canadian music, film, television, arts, culture and lived experiences. POP! Canada is a testament to that commitment — because we refuse to let Canadian stories fade into the background.”

Providing a platform for Canadian creators to share their stories with audiences both locally and globally, POP! Canada will initially roll out content on a monthly basis, with a plan to evolve into an alternative weekly publication, the press release says.

POP! Canada says it will shortly put out a call for pitches from independent journalists, writers and media professionals wanting to write feature stories, interviews or opinion pieces that highlight Canadian entertainment, cultural movements and emerging talent.
