TORONTO – Fans of the Discovery Channel will notice some new names looks when they channel-surf later in the summer.
Thanks to a renewed joint venture between Discovery Communications in the U.S. and Canadian parent CTV, the former Discovery HD, Court TV and Discovery Civilization will re-brand and re-launch as Discovery World HD, Investigation Discovery and Discovery Science, respectively.
Discovery World HD, launching August 2, will showcase “a beautiful and brilliant portrait of our world in vivid high definition”; Investigation Discovery (ID), debuting August 30, will offer “a compelling inside look at forensics, the paranormal and the fascinating human potential for good and evil”; while Discovery Science, coming September 27, will “explore the cool innovations, experiments and discoveries that shape our world”, the company said in a press release.
“These distinct new brands, each with their own strengths and character, are proven success stories around the world,” said Paul Lewis, president and GM of Discovery Channel, in the release. “I am delighted that we can bring these new services to Canadians and offer viewers compelling new destinations for factual entertainment.”
