TORONTO — Bell Media’s CTV Comedy Channel announced today it has partnered with Just For Laughs (JFL) and Counterfeit Pictures to adapt Roast Battle, a reality show format from ViacomCBS International Studios Distribution, for English-speaking audiences in Canada.

The new show, Roast Battle Canada (8 episodes x 30 minutes), builds on the success of Bell Media’s French-language version, Roast Battle: Le Grand Duel, which is a top-ranking series for its Z channel.

Scheduled to start filming later this year, Roast Battle Canada will see two pairs of Canadian comics face off in each episode, hurling jokes at each other in hopes of coming out unscathed and crowned the victor by a panel of Canadian judges, which includes comedian Russell Peters, writer, producer and actor Sabrina Jalees (Carol’s Second Act), and comedian and actor K. Trevor Wilson (Letterkenny). Hosting the show will be actor and comedian Ennis Esmer, who was recently announced to be joining the cast of the upcoming CTV original series Children Ruin Everything.

The original format of the U.S. television series Roast Battle has also been adapted in Germany, Spain, Mexico, South Africa, and the U.K.
