TORONTO – CTV has acquired the newest incarnation of cult hit The X-Files, 13 years after the original series completed its run.
The six-episode drama from 20th Century Fox Television Distribution will debut with a special two-night premiere on January 24 at 10:00 PM ET/PT and on January 25 at 8:00 PM ET/PT on CTV and CTV Go, where it will continue for the next four weeks. The X-Files will then join the CraveTV lineup as part of the Sci-Fi & Fantasy collection.
Helmed by original creator/executive producer Chris Carter, David Duchovny (Californication) and Gillian Anderson (The Fall) return to star in the series, re-inhabiting their iconic roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully (pictured).
To mark the series’ return, Bell Media’s Space is readying a marathon of the 20 must-see and most-defining episodes of the original X-Files episodes, personally curated by Chris Carter. Dubbed ‘The Essential X-Files Collection’, the shows will air during a two-day marathon on January 23 and January 24 from 11:00 AM ET/PT to 9:00 PM ET/PT.
CTV said that The X-Files is the first program announcement for its Winter 2016 schedule.
“The X-Files is an iconic brand that delivers on all fronts,” said CTV Networks and CraveTV programming SVP Mike Cosentino, in the news release. “This event series is a perfect fit for CTV and we look forward to bringing a new chapter to Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast. And as an event series, it’s a perfect anchor to our Sci-Fi and Fantasy Collection on CraveTV.”
