OTTAWA — The Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) announced today it will devote a full day of special programming to recognize the second National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on Sept. 30.

CPAC’s programming will allow viewers “to reflect on the experiences of Indigenous Peoples across the country and the long and continuing road to reconciliation,” a press release says.

“In partnership with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and APTN, CPAC will broadcast the national commemorative gathering Remembering the Children: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which will take place at LeBreton Flats Park in Ottawa beginning at 1 pm ET/10 am PT,” the release reads.

This one-hour live broadcast, being produced by NCTR and APTN, “will honour residential school survivors, their families, their communities, and all the children who never made it home,” says the release, which adds the event is one-of-a-kind and “will be led by children and residential school survivors.”

Additionally, starting at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT and throughout the day, CPAC will broadcast special programming from its archives “that takes viewers through the events that led to Canada’s reconciliation path and looks forward to the next steps towards reconciliation.”

This archival programming includes highlights from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s work, the release of the Commission’s final report in 2015, and programming that explores the future of reconciliation, according to the release.

“CPAC is committed to doing its part to advance reconciliation with Indigenous communities,” said CPAC president and CEO Christa Dickenson, in the release. “We are honoured to be part of making this public commemoration accessible across the country. Reckoning with the painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is important work 365 days a year.”
