TORONTO – Corus Studios announced Friday its largest output deal to date with the sale of over 200 episodes to U.S. streamer, Hulu, which is acquiring content across home renovation, real estate, and food genres.
Hulu will begin streaming the new pickups later this year across North America and internationally (not in Canada, of course). While financial terms were not released, Corus chief financial officer John Gosseling told financial analysts during Corus Entertainment’s second quarter conference call Friday morning the value of the deal is under $10 million.
“Corus Studios content continues to resonate globally with its premium portfolio of broadly-appealing lifestyle series,” said Lisa Godfrey, senior vice president of original content and Corus Studios, in the press release announcing the sale. “Our commitment is to foster and develop a content portfolio as diverse as our global audiences.”
Corus Studios has sold more than 500 episodes internationally to various broadcasters and streamers so far in its fiscal year – which began September 1, 2020.
The titles Hulu has acquired include Backyard Builds (Season 1-3), Family Home Overhaul, Farmhouse Facelift, Home to Win (Season 1-4), $ave My Reno (Season 1-3), real estate show Hot Market, food travelogue series Big Food Bucket List (Season 1-2) and cooking competitions series Wall of Chefs and Junior Chef Showdown (above).
Quebecor Content is buying French language rights to Corus Studios content, too, adding 29 hours of programming to its slate and overseas, Discovery has purchased various shows for a range of countries in which it operates.
