Acquired content for speciality channels and Global fall schedule also revealed

Corus Entertainment announced Wednesday its slate of Canadian original content that will premiere across its specialty networks in 2024/25, including 16 returning series and 18 new titles.

The new series include Pamela’s Cooking with Love (eight episodes x 60 minutes), hosted by actress Pamela Anderson, who is joined in her Vancouver Island kitchen by renowned chefs, where they prepare plant-based meals for intimate dinner parties with her friends and family. The series will premiere next year on Food Network Canada.

Anderson is also returning to HGTV Canada this winter for season two of Pamela’s Garden of Eden (8 x 60), in which she will continue her quest to transform her grandmother’s six-acre property on Vancouver Island, resolving renovation issues from season one and tackling new projects.

HGTV Canada will have a number of new Canadian original series in 2024/25, including Building Baeumler (10 x 60), the latest series from Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, in which they navigate work and life following the successful launch of their Bahamas resort. The series is currently in production and a premiere date has not been announced.

Other new HGTV Canada shows include Beer Budget Reno (working title, 10 x 60), which follows DIY designer Kristen Coutts as she delivers life-changing renos for people on a budget using money-saving hacks, transforming outdated spaces into something fresh and functional. The series is currently casting and will film this summer.

Also in production for HGTV Canada, Rentovation (13 x 30) helps long-term leasers upgrade and personalize their space. Premiering this fall, season one of House of Ali (8 x 60) features luxury home designer Ali Budd and her all-female team as they deliver big-budget renovations and high-end reveals.

Original series returning to HGTV this fall include season two of Gut Job (8 x 60), season three of Rock Solid Builds (8 x 60), season two of Hoarder House Flippers (8 x 60), season three of Farmhouse Facelift (8 x 60), and new episodes of Drew and Jonathan Scott’s Don’t Hate Your House (9 x 60). This spring, Scott McGillivray and Debra Salmoni return for season six of Scott’s Vacation House Rules (8 x 60), and McGillivray teams up again with Bryan Baeumler for season two of Renovation Resort (8 x 60).

Back on Food Network Canada this fall is season 11 of Top Chef Canada (8 x 60), with host Eden Grinshpan, judges Mark McEwan, Mijune Pak, David Zilber and Janet Zuccarini, and 10 new chef competitors from across Canada. Also returning to the channel this upcoming broadcast year are The Big Bake (season five, 7 x 60), Carnival Eats (season 10), and Great Chocolate Showdown (season four, 8 x 60).

The History Channel will premiere several new Canadian original titles in 2024/25, including Yukon Rescue (8 x 60), which follows emergency first responders in the rugged Canadian North as they navigate extreme weather conditions, avalanches, flash floods, spreading wildfires, and more, to keep their communities safe.

The new four-part documentary Sounds Black (4 x 60) examines the origins and impact of Black music in Canada. The docuseries is directed by award-winning filmmaker Cazhhmere and includes contributions from such luminaries as Kardinal Offishall, Jully Black, Fefe Dobson, Maestro Fresh Wes, Deborah Cox and Keshia Chanté.

The History Channel will delve into the paranormal with season one of Repossessed (8 x 60), which follows a team that includes paranormal investigator Moe Sargi, psychic medium Leitreanna Brown and researcher Marika Simón, as they travel across North America in search of the most haunted objects and the desperate owners who need their help.

Series returning to The History Channel this year include new season two episodes and season three of Deadman’s Curse (8 x 60), and season five of Rust Valley Restorers (8 x 60).

Over on W Network, the four-part original movie series The Love Club Moms (4 x 88) will start rolling out in early 2025. The series follows the romantic lives of four strong, successful women played by Ashley Newbrough (Love in Glacier National: A National Park Romance), Rebecca Dalton (Nurses), Genelle Williams (Family Law), and Nazneen Contractor (Children Ruin Everything). The Love Club Moms also stars Ryan Bruce (Let Him Go), Corey Sevier (Take Me Back For Christmas), Mark Taylor (Beyond Black Beauty) and Joseph Cannata (A Perfect Match).

Corus’s Nelvana is delivering new animated content to Treehouse this year, including Barney’s World (26 x 30), co-produced with Mattel Television and premiering this fall, and Millie Magnificent (26 x 30), slated to debut later this year.

Shows returning to Treehouse include season 28 of Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go! (13 x 30), plus a one-hour special Thomas & Friends: “The Christmas Letter Express” All Engines Go!, new episodes of Builder Brothers Dream Factory (10 x 15), and new episodes of Vida The Vet (10 x 30), produced by Spin Master Entertainment.

Nelvana’s award-winning short film Jelly (1 x 10) will make its official primetime debut this September on Cartoon Network.

Season one of Zokie of Planet Ruby (26 x 30) will premiere on YTV this fall.

Acquired content for specialty channels

Corus also announced Wednesday newly acquired content for its roster of specialty networks and streaming platforms for 2024/25, including Peacock scripted originals for its Showcase and W Network channels.

Coming to Showcase this year is the Untitled Steph Curry/Adam Pally Project (working title), a mockumentary comedy series that follows a down-on-his-luck memorabilia dealer (Pally) who seeks redemption by reuniting with his childhood teammate, NBA superstar Steph Curry.

Other Peacock originals to air on Showcase include Teacup starring Yvonne Strahovski and Canadian actor Scott Speedman, and Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist with Kevin Hart, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard.

Showcase will also air the Peacock and Sky original series Lockerbie starring Colin Firth, and The Day of the Jackal starring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch.

Also landing on Showcase soon is Hysteria!, which stars Julie Bowen (Modern Family) and is a coming-of-age thriller depicting a shocking tale of teenage outcasts and heavy metal bands during the “Satanic Panic” of the late 1980s.

The W Network has picked up the Peacock series Laid starring Stephanie Hsu, Zosia Mamet, Michael Angarano and Tommy Martinez, as well as All Her Fault, that follows Marissa Irvine (Sarah Snook, Succession), who arrives at a house to pick up her young son from a play date, but the woman who answers the door doesn’t have him, beginning every parent’s worst nightmare.

The History Channel will feature a star-studded lineup of new series including Holy Marvels with Dennis QuaidKevin Costner’s The WestThe UnXplored with Danny Trejo, and the Derek Jeter-produced History’s Greatest WarriorsHistory’s Greatest Escapes with Morgan Freeman will also return to The History Channel this fall.

Unscripted and reality acquisitions for HGTV Canada include Scariest House in AmericaChateau ImpossibleThe Flip Off, and 100 Day Hotel Challenge.

The 10-part docuseries Tucci: The Heart of Italy, featuring award-winning actor and foodie-extraordinaire Stanley Tucci, will land on National Geographic this year.

Global schedule announced

Corus’s Global also announced its primetime schedule for the 2024/25 broadcast season, featuring new and returning series.

New this fall is a modern take on the iconic procedural drama Matlock, starring Oscar winner Kathy Bates, alongside Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter and Beau Bridges. Matlock will air Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Global. A premiere date was not announced.

The latest installment of the NCIS franchise, NCIS: Origins will air Monday nights at 10 p.m. on Global this fall. The series follows a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) in 1991, years prior to the events of NCIS, and is narrated by Mark Harmon.

The Canadian-produced Murder in a Small Town, starring Rossif Sutherland and Kristin Kreuk, will air Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Global. This psychological crime drama is based on the acclaimed Karl Alberg book series by novelist L.R. Wright and is shot in British Columbia.

New comedy series Poppa’s House, starring Damon Wayans and Damon Wayans Jr., is also joining Global’s fall schedule, airing Monday nights at 8:30 p.m.
