MISSISSAUGA – The Canadian CommTech Show and Seminars recognized the winners of its inaugural CommTech Information Communications Technology Awards gala Monday night at the Mississauga Convention Centre.
Event emcee and TSOC president Imran Hasan began the evening with a moment of silence in recognition of those impacted by the Humboldt Broncos tragedy, before announcing the following awards:
– Canadian Individual, Excellence and Innovation in ICT: Serge Rochette, senior vice-president of technical operations, Rogers Communications;
– Canadian Organization, Excellence and Innovation in ICT: T2 Utility Engineers; and
– Canadian Volunteer of the Year: Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE), Ontario chapter, board of directors and associates;
U.S.-based networking equipment provider Adtran received honourable mention for its investments in the Canadian market that have allowed smaller Canadian operators to compete against local incumbents in underserved areas. CommTech will make a donation to on behalf of Adtran Canada to support the families of the Humboldt Broncos.
In addition, CommTech and TSOC donated a $1,000 scholarship to Sheridan College to be awarded to a third year ICT student based on academic merit and the recommendation of their program coordinator.
“I was delighted by the quality of the nominations that we received this year, and hope to be able to expand our award categories next year”, said Canadian CommTech Show & Seminars president and CEO Linda Guzman. “These awards allow the winners to be recognized by their peers, and give back to an industry that has helped to make CommTech so successful.”
The two Canadian CommTech Show and Seminars offer technical sessions, live demonstrations, workshops, and a trade show featuring over 80 exhibiting companies from across North America.
CommTech East takes place April 17 – 18 at the Mississauga Convention Centre in Mississauga, and CommTech West is scheduled for May 16 – 17, 2018 at the Coast Plaza Conference Centre in Calgary. The annual CommTech Charity Golf Tournament 2018 will be held May 15 at Calgary’s Valley Ridge Golf Club.
