MONTREAL – During its conference call with financial analysts on Friday morning to discuss its first quarter results, Cogeco president and CEO Philip Jetté announced the company will being marketing its new video/broadband service, Epico, next week.

While the company has been testing the product with employees and has been targeting some customers for upgrades, customers will begin to see the marketing push very soon.

Epico will be available to “85% of our Canadian footprint,” said Jetté. Cogeco’s primary markets are the Oakville to Niagara Falls corridor in Ontario, as well as the Windsor region, and portions of southern Quebec, centred on Trois Rivieres.

“We are planning to launch a marketing campaign next week, which will allow us to attract new customers and upsell a portion of our current customer base. Epico provides many benefits, such as customization settings for customers, access to the Google Play store integration with OTT platforms, a Wi-Fi connection, self-installation capabilities, and an overall lower delivery cost.”

As we first reported in September, the new service is based off the MediaKind platform and its launch was delayed for many months, at first because the company wanted to “get it right”, and after that because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new service will also offer 4K capabilities, cloud-based DVR, and since its software is the Android TV operator tier platform, it will have a voice remote integrated with the Google assistant. It will also allow access to streamers like Netflix and is also less expensive for Cogeco than its current top end, TiVo-branded service. It is expected to be a far easier, cheaper, install and provided increased competition to Bell’s Fibe TV.
