TORONTO and SAN FRANCISCO — Cloud-based network services provider Cloudflare announced today it is opening its first Canadian office in Toronto and is hiring local talent to support its customers in the region.
“As a proud Canadian I’m especially excited that we are hiring local talent to further support our Canadian customers in the world’s tenth largest national economy,” said Michelle Zatlyn, the Saskatchewan-born co-founder, president and COO of Cloudflare, which is headquartered in San Francisco, in a press release. “Cloudflare blocks billions of cyber attacks in Canada each day for our customers. As the world continues to rely on the Internet, we look forward to securing and accelerating Canadian organizations and giving their users, customers, and teams the tools they need to be fast, reliable, and secure no matter where they are working.”
The initial functions prioritized for the Toronto office include engineering, research and development, customer success, marketing, sales and partnerships, says the release.
Cloudflare first established a data centre in Canada in 2012, and the company’s cloud-based network now spans seven cities across Canada, including Vancouver, Calgary, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Globally, Cloudflare’s network spans more than 200 cities in over 100 countries, serving 3.5 million customers around the world, according to the press release.
The company’s Canadian customers include Shopify, media company Thomson Reuters and investment service Wealthsimple. Cloudflare also has partnerships with companies such as Acquia to serve Canadian customers including Videotron, The University of Ottawa and Irving Oil.
Currently, Cloudflare’s careers webpage lists Canadian job openings for marketing and sales positions.
According to this blog post, Ash Mathur has been hired by Cloudflare as head of sales for Canada. His previous positions have included leadership roles at Cisco and Microsoft with responsibilities across sales, business development and alliances.
