PRINCE RUPERT, B.C. – Independent municipal network operator CityWest and Strathcona Regional District, who are partners in the Connected Coast subsea fibre project, today launched a new web site that will contain information related to the project, including stories of how technology will benefit communities up and down the coast.

The website, www.connectedcoast.ca, officially launched today. Cartt.ca reported on the project here.

The site “will be helpful as a point of information for all interested stakeholders, and it will help us tell the story of how this project will benefit people who live up and down the coast of B.C.,” said Victoria Smith, manager of strategic initiatives at the Strathcona Regional District.

The Connected Coast project will see an undersea fibre-optic cable run from Prince Rupert to Vancouver Island, with a leg west to Haida Gwaii. The entire project will connect 154 communities, providing wholesale bandwidth services to these communities, and will improve the online experience for schools, hospitals, libraries, and businesses.

It will also allow service providers to link up with the fibre and provide “last mile” services to businesses and residents in the communities.
