VALLEYVIEW, Alta. — Rural Internet service provider Canadian Fiber Optics (CFOC) announced Tuesday the launch of its privately funded, residential 10 Gbps fibre-optic network in Valleyview, Alta., saying it’s the fastest residential Internet network in Canada.

“Thousands of times faster than what is currently offered in most rural communities, the first customers will enjoy blazing fast internet late summer,” reads CFOC’s press release.

Calgary-based CFOC builds, operates and services high-speed fiber networks in rural communities in Western Canada through its Northern Lights Fiber (NLF) brand. In addition to Calgary, CFOC has offices in Grande Prairie, Alta., and Saskatoon.

CFOC says it built the new 10 Gigabit network in Valleyview to support local community organizations, businesses and families as well as to support jobs and spur economic growth.

“We are very excited to be launching Canada’s fastest residential internet in Valleyview, Alberta,” said Arjen Kaput, co-founder and CEO of CFOC and NLF, in the press release. “The Covid-19 pandemic has underscored the need for everyone to have access to reliable and affordable high-speed internet. The whole community has been very supportive and great to work with and that has accelerated our decision to introduce 10Gbps technology which we believe is a game changer for our industry. Our rural communities deserve access to the very best technology available and today’s announcement proves that rural Albertan communities can become connectivity and technology leaders in Canada.”
