LONDON — When it comes to the still nascent 5G mobile network experience, Canada ranks in the top 10 countries in terms of mobile gaming and voice app experience, according to the latest report from U.K.-based mobile analytics company Opensignal, published today.

As shown above, Canada achieved a score of 85.7 in 5G games experience (a 4th-place ranking globally) and a score of 83.9 for 5G voice app experience (a 5th-place ranking), based on data collected by Opensignal during the period from October 1 to December 29, 2020. Achieving a score above 85 in the games experience category garnered Canada an “Excellent” rating from Opensignal.

For both metrics, countries who ranked higher than Canada include Netherlands, South Korea and Ireland.

“Offering high speeds is not sufficient for mobile users to enjoy a great experience. For example, sometimes operators will throttle certain types of mobile data traffic — often video streams — which can have the effect of enabling very fast speed test results but offering users a poor video experience,” reads Opensignal’s Benchmarking the global 5G experience report.

Canada did not rank in the top 10 countries in the 5G video experience category, nor in other metrics such as 5G speeds, availability and network reach.
