THE CABLE INDUSTRY backers of their self-titled 10G platform, which was first introduced two years ago at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, provided last week an update on the progress being made to make 10G a reality in the coming years.

Led by NCTA, CableLabs, SCTE-ISBE and GigaEurope, the 10G Platform will deliver speeds of 10 gigabits per second and power next-generation technologies and applications including super high-definition streaming and gaming to holodecks and light field displays, 360-degree video and video walls, says the initiative’s progress update.

Also in October, Telecom Advisory Services released a 10G economic impact report, which demonstrated the new broadband platform will generate at least US$330 billion in total economic output and create more than 676,000 new jobs over seven years.
