AirTag accessory and Apple Podcast Subscriptions revealed

TORONTO — Today, as part of its product release day, Apple made several announcements including the unveiling of Apple Podcasts Subscriptions, the newest generation of Apple TV 4K, new purple iPhone 12s and iPhone 12 minis, the AirTag iPhone accessory which acts as a locator device, and the all-new iPad Pro and iMac.

Starting in May, through Apple Podcasts Subscriptions (above), podcast listeners will be able to sign up for premium subscriptions from independent creators to leading media and entertainment brands, including Sony Music Entertainment, The Athletic, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and National Public Radio (NPR). Listeners will also have access to curated channels offering groups of shows, alongside millions of free shows on Apple Podcasts. Pricing for each subscription is set by the creators.

The next generation of Apple TV 4K includes an all-new Siri remote, innovative colour balance technology and high frame rate HDR (high dynamic range) with Dolby Vision video. Availability will begin in the second half of May, with prices starting at $229.

Apple’s latest models of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini feature a new purple finish, as well as an advanced dual-camera system, Super Retina XDR display with ceramic shield front cover, the Apple-designed A14 Bionic chip, and 5G support. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini are priced from $1,129 and $979 before trade-in, respectively, and will be available starting April 30.

With the new AirTag, iPhone users can attach the accessory to personal items and keep track of them using Apple’s Find My app. Available beginning April 30, AirTags can be purchased in one and four packs for $39 and $129, respectively.

The new iPad Pro features the Apple-designed M1 chip, ultra-fast 5G connectivity and a 12.9-inch Liquid Retina XDR display. Available in the second half of May, the new iPad Pro starts at $1,399 for a Wi-Fi model and $1,599 for a Wi-Fi + cellular model. (An 11-inch iPad Pro is also available starting at $999 for the Wi-Fi model and $1,199 for the Wi-Fi + cellular model.)

Finally, the all-new iMac features a much more compact design enabled by the M1 chip, a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with 11.3 million pixels, and a 1080p FaceTime HD camera. Available in the second half of May, the new iMac starts at $1,599.
