MONTREAL – Air Canada and Bell announced a multi-year deal Wednesday that will see the telecom provide the airline’s Aeroplan members free messaging on all Wi-Fi equipped aircraft starting May 15.
“This offering will enable customers to send and receive text-based messages via onboard Wi-Fi using popular messaging apps including Apple’s iMessage, Meta’s WhatsApp and Messenger, Rakuten’s Viber, and Messages by Google,” the companies said in a press release, adding the service will also be available to loyalty members of Air Canada partner airlines.
The companies added that newcomers and visitors to Canada will also get complementary SIM cards on certain inbound international flights so they can connect to cellular services when they get on the ground in Canada.
“For those new to Canada or visiting, we recognize how important it is to stay connected with family and friends, and the new opportunities being connected can bring,” Claire Gillies, executive vice president of marketing and president of consumer at Bell, said in the release.
