TORONTO — The Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) announced Monday its director of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, Olivia Nuamah, has left the organization as of April 1.

The news comes a little more than four months after Nuamah’s appointment was announced in late November. According to ACTRA’s press release, Nuamah left the organization to pursue another opportunity outside the industry.

“I wish to thank Olivia for her stepping in at a critical time and supporting ACTRA’s objectives to improve the working lives of Canadian professional performers and implementing strategies to ensure more diverse representation on all of our screens,” said ACTRA’s national executive director, Marie Kelly, in the press release. “Since joining ACTRA, she had an immediate impact on our organization and has contributed to strengthening ACTRA’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging efforts on behalf of our members. We thank Olivia for her hard work and wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

“My sincere thanks to ACTRA for the opportunity to work on the issues I care most passionately about,” said Nuamah. “I enjoyed working with ACTRA’s talented membership and dedicated leadership team. It was a rewarding experience to help create real change and move the agenda forward on diversity, equity and inclusion priorities. The future is bright for ACTRA and I am confident the organization is poised to make important gains for their members. I have been offered an exciting opportunity outside of the screen-based industry and have made the difficult decision to pursue this once-in-a-lifetime chance to continue advancing change at a national level.”

ACTRA says it will begin an executive search to identify potential candidates for the diversity director role and ensure a smooth transition.
