Quebecor Content on Wednesday announced season one of the acclaimed sci-fi drama series Société distincte (Distinct Society) has been acquired by TVCine Channels to air and stream on its premium pay TV and film brands in Portugal.
The 10-episode, one-hour series was produced by Blachfilms and is distributed worldwide by Quebecor’s TVA Distribution and Incendo. It will debut in the first half of 2025 on TVCine Edition and TVCine+ in its original French language with Portuguese subtitles.
“Distinct Society follows Marc, a ufologist who has been searching for his missing brother, Gabriel, for nearly 15 years. Alongside his mother Micheline, Marc seeks to prove that his brother was abducted by aliens. Over time, evidence supporting this theory mounts, but an encounter with a mysterious woman reorients the nature of his presumptions,” reads a description in a Quebecor Content press release.
“No strangers to diverse, genre-bending content, we are delighted to partner with TVCine Channels and leverage their top-notch, multi-platform brands to showcase this out-of-this-world series to viewers in Portugal,” said Sylvie Langlois, senior director of formats and head of international development at Quebecor Content, in the press release.
“At TVCine Channels we are always on the lookout for bold, original content from all around the world,” said Miguel Pires Ramos, head of TVCine Channels. “Distinct Society offers precisely that, delivering a new take on a familiar subject with a fresh, distinctive voice. We are thrilled to partner with Quebecor Content to bring this unique series to our audiences.”
Distinct Society debuted in Canada in June 2024 and reached more than one million total viewers just four weeks after its launch, according to Quebecor Content’s press release.
This latest licensing deal follows the recently announced acquisition of the V10 Media-produced crime drama Detective Surprenant: The Girl with Stone Eyes by Global Series Network for streaming on renowned on-demand platform Walter Presents in the U.K., Ireland and the U.S., starting in spring 2025.
