CBC NEWS ANNOUNCED today Marcia Young (above) and John Northcott (below) will host the national public broadcaster’s flagship morning audio newscast CBC News: World Report on CBC Radio.

Young was previously part of the World Report’s weekend team and will now host the show Monday to Thursday permanently starting immediately, a press release explains. (Former weekday host, Nil Köksal is now co-host of CBC Radio’s As it Happens.)

Northcott, who will host Friday through Sunday starting Nov. 26, comes to the program from his role as a CBC News Network anchor.

“Together they will deliver the morning’s top news from across the country and around the world, seven days a week, on CBC Radio, the free CBC Listen App for iOS and Android, voice activated speakers and online at cbc.ca/listen,” the press release says.

Young began her career at the CBC in 1998. She has hosted breaking news specials including the London subway bombings and the U.S. election of President Joe Biden and has developed audio specials including one on Jamaican independence.

“Joining the weekday team is an opportunity to spend more time with producers, reporters, and hosts across the country,” said Young, in the release. “They are all incredibly dedicated people making great radio. I’m looking forward to bringing Canadians the stories that matter to them.”

Northcott has spent more than three decades in journalism and has covered politics, crime, science and environment, gender issues, disasters, and the arts.

“Anchoring World Report is a chance for me to speak to the audience in a different way, through the intimacy of radio,” said Northcott. “It is also a chance for me to work with a team of smart, curious journalists including the fabulous Marcia Young.”

“The depth of experience Marcia and John bring to the program, and their shared ability to connect how the headlines are impacting people wherever they live, can only deepen the great relationship they have both built with morning audiences,” said Seema Patel, senior director, CBC News programs, CBC.

“I look forward to hearing them continue to tell the stories that will help listeners better understand the day’s news as it unfolds and reach more and more Canadians on every platform.”
