NEW YORK — Eurasia Group, a global political risk analysis firm, announced today Evan Solomon (above), known for hosting CTV News’ Power Play and Question Period programs, is joining the company’s management committee and becoming publisher of its subsidiary GZERO Media.
Solomon’s appointment is effective Oct. 17 and he will be based in Eurasia Group’s New York City office, says a press release announcing his appointment.
An emailed statement from CTV’s parent company Bell Media says “Solomon will continue to report regularly for CTV News as a Special Correspondent with a focus on Canadian politics and global affairs.”
A new host for Power Play and Question Period will be announced in the coming weeks, the statement adds.
“Being part of the extraordinary CTV News teams as host of Power Play and Question Period, and on Bell Media radio stations, has been the honour of a lifetime,” Solomon said in Bell Media’s emailed statement. “No group of people take the responsibility of delivering trusted news to Canadians more seriously. Most importantly, I want to thank our audiences for your ongoing engagement, your trust, and your passion for the debates and stories that matter so much to this country.
“I’m thrilled that as I begin an exciting new chapter at Eurasia Group and GZERO Media in New York City, I will remain as a Special Correspondent to CTV News. It’s a long road and a small world, so I know we will all stay closely connected,” Solomon added.
“Congratulations to Evan on this exciting new adventure,” said Karine Moses, senior vice-president of content development and news for Bell Media and Bell’s vice-chair, Quebec. “While we will greatly miss Evan’s energy and perspective across our news properties and specifically on Power Play and Question Period, we are thrilled — and know our viewers will be as well — that he will remain part of the CTV News team as a Special Correspondent.”
In addition to hosting CTV News Channel’s two political programs, Solomon was also the host of the Bell Media/iHeartRadio daily radio program The Evan Solomon Show.
Prior to working at CTV News, Solomon founded and hosted the SiriusXM show and podcast Everything is Political, and he hosted CBC News’ Power and Politics with Evan Solomon and CBC Radio’s The House. His other previous CBC hosting duties included CBC News: Sunday and FutureWorld.
Solomon also co-founded Shift Magazine, an international magazine about digital culture, and hosted the PBS series Masters of Technology.
He has written and edited five best-selling books, including Fueling the Future: How the Battle Over Energy is Changing Everything and Feeding the Future: From Fat to Famine, How to Solve the World’s Food Crisis.
Eurasia Group said in its press release Solomon’s appointment at the company “is a critical step in achieving our strategic goals to expand our diverse media platforms and reach a broader audience around the world.”
“With so much happening so quickly in the world, Evan’s extensive background in digital media and global politics is uniquely relevant,” said Ian Bremmer, president and founder of Eurasia Group and GZERO Media, in the release. “His journalistic and editorial prowess coupled with his brand-building expertise will be an immense asset to Eurasia Group as GZERO Media continues to grow and deliver trusted, balanced coverage.”
“With thanks to our Vice Chairman Gerald Butts who kept us rowing in the right direction as Interim Chair of GZERO Media, I can’t wait to work with Evan, the GZERO team and the unparalleled analyst team at Eurasia Group, to grow GZERO and its quest to cut through the spin and conventional political wisdom and zero in on perspectives and ideas that matter most right now,” said Maziar Minovi, CEO of Eurasia Group.
