TORONTO – The Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television (the Canadian Academy) announced today its CEO Beth Janson (above) is stepping down after having been appointed chief operating officer at TIFF.
Louis Calabro, the Canadian Academy’s current vice president, programming and awards, has been named interim CEO by the academy’s board of directors, effective May 20, 2022.
Janson has been CEO of the Canadian Academy since July 2016. “Since then, she has provided outstanding leadership not only to the organization, but the Canadian screen industry as a whole,” a press release says. “The Academy looks forward to seeing her hard work continue at Tiff, and we wish her all the best in this new role.”
“Over the last six years, Beth has presided over a period of tremendous growth for the Academy,” said John Young, chair of the Canadian Academy’s board of directors, in the press release.
“Her leadership in elevating the brand, expanding our work and pushing our industry to embrace authentic change has been best in class. She has made a lasting impact and we thank her for all of her hard work and dedication. We are delighted to welcome Louis as Interim CEO and are confident in his ability to lead the organization forward during this time of transition.”
Calabro has over 14 years of experience with the Canadian Academy, and “has a deep passion for elevating the Canadian creative community. He will assume all responsibilities of the CEO role until such time as a search for a permanent successor has been concluded,” the release says.
