CHATHAM, Ont. — Independent ISP TekSavvy Solutions announced today it has launched fibre-to-the-home service in the communities of Mitchell’s Bay, Grande Pointe and Pain Court, located in the municipality of Chatham-Kent, Ont.

As a result of this network expansion, delivered as part of the Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) regional broadband program, more than 250 homes and businesses in these communities now have access to TekSavvy’s fibre Internet service, explains a TekSavvy press release.

According to SWIFT’s approved projects webpage, the original scope of this project also includes the community of Dover Centre and the connection of over 160 more homes. TekSavvy was awarded the contract, along with a little more than $848,000 in SWIFT funding, in February 2021. The total value of the project is $2.3 million, which includes TekSavvy’s contribution.

“TekSavvy is proud to deliver the latest fibre-based technology to Mitchell’s Bay, Grande Pointe and Pain Court,” said Charlie Burns, chief technology officer at TekSavvy, in the press release.

“Residents can access fast, reliable internet service with download speeds up to 1 Gbps and unlimited usage — and all at a reasonable price,” Burns said.

“SWIFT is proud to partner with TekSavvy on this very important project,” said Barry Field, SWIFT’s executive director. “Together, with the support of the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, these strategic investments in broadband infrastructure will provide long-term positive benefits to the communities.”

This announcement follows the launch of TekSavvy’s FTTH service in two other Chatham-Kent communities, Blenheim and Cedar Springs, last week, which was not funded by SWIFT.

Cartt.ca reached out to TekSavvy for an update on the progress made on the project in Dover Centre but did not hear back before deadline.
