TORONTO – Rogers announced Thursday evening John A. MacDonald has taken over the role of chairman of the company’s board of directors.
Effective today, Edward Rogers has been replaced as chairman but will remain on the board as a director, according to a press release.
“John A. MacDonald has been a member of the Rogers Board of Directors since 2012 and holds the role of Lead Director and Chair of the Corporate Governance Committee,” the release says.
The board voted on this change hours after the company released its Q3 results and after days of reports detailing how Mr. Rogers attempted to remove CEO Joe Natale and other Rogers executives from their jobs. The board, which includes his mother Loretta, and sisters Martha and Melinda, came down decidedly against the son of the founder in ousting him as chair. A report from the Globe and Mail today quoted sources saying Natale found out about Mr. Rogers’ plan to replace him thanks to an accidental pocket dial.
“This has been a challenging time for the Corporation and I want to reaffirm on behalf of the majority of the Board our support for and total confidence in the management team and CEO of Rogers Communications,” said MacDonald, in the press release.
