MONTREAL — Bell Canada today announced the launch of “Bell for Better”, a new long-term commitment which the company says aims “to create better outcomes for all stakeholders, including Canadian communities everywhere, employees, customers and shareholders alike,” according to its press release.
“With our connectivity commitments from the smallest rural communities to the largest cities, investments in mental health initiatives, environmental sustainability and an engaged workplace, Bell looks to create a thriving, prosperous and more connected world for Canadians across the country, especially as we recover from the unprecedented challenges of the Covid crisis,” reads Bell’s press release.
The Bell for Better initiative includes the following commitments:
- Committing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and achieving carbon neutral operations by 2025.
- Commitment of $155 million for mental health initiatives by 2025 through Bell Let’s Talk.
- Accelerated investment of up to $14 billion from 2020 to 2022 to deliver faster and better connectivity to more Canadians.
- Connecting rural and underserved communities by making Bell’s Wireless Home Internet available to more than 750,000 households in rural communities by the end of 2021.
- Workplace diversity programs and targets, including encouraging diversity at the top by targeting at least 35% women in executive positions by the end of 2021, and BIPOC representation of 40%, including at least 25% in senior leadership positions, by 2025.
Bell also released today its 2020 Purpose and Corporate Responsibility Report, which the company says demonstrates its commitment to the highest environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards.
The introduction of Bell for Better is being supported by a national media campaign on television, digital and social media, out-of-home and print platforms.
