TORONTO and VANCOUVER — Video tech company Imagine Communications announced today Knowledge Network, British Columbia’s public educational broadcaster, has upgraded its playout facility (above) near Vancouver with a software-based, channel creation solution based on Imagine’s Versio integrated playout platform and ADC automation system.

The Versio solution can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid environment, says the company’s press release. The solution allows for easy integration with existing and newly implemented technologies, such as Knowledge Network’s BroadView traffic software, says the release.

Features of the solution include: Versio Graphics, which provides web-based tools to embed complex instructions into a graphics file; and Nexio Motion asset management software, used to load content onto the Versio instances for scheduled playout.

“Moving to a streamlined, integrated playout architecture has enabled us to handle complex workflows with fewer manual interventions,” said Oliver Eichel, director of broadcast technology and IT at Knowledge Network. “For example, we typically have to invest extra hours and manpower to transition during biannual time changes. But with the Imagine system, this year’s move to Daylight Savings Time was seamless.”

The installation of the solution was completed through Imagine’s channel partner, Applied Electronics.
