EDMONTON — Super Channel announced today Mystic, a new family thriller series set in New Zealand, will premiere on Super Channel Heart & Home on Sunday, May 16 at 8 p.m. ET.
Based on Stacy Gregg’s Pony Club Secrets book series, the Super Channel Heart & Home Original series (13 episodes x 30 minutes), produced in association with BBC, is a family drama that explores community, self-discovery and environmentalism. Brian Bird (When Calls the Heart) is executive producer of the series for Super Channel.
Shot in New Zealand, the series is set in the fictional peninsula of Kauri Point and follows new-to-town teenager Issie Brown (played by Macey Chipping, above, Holby City, Vampire Academy) as she struggles to fit in after moving from London to the quiet, backwater town with her mother, Amanda (played by Laura Patch, After Life, Bad Mother). In the series, Issie uncovers a series of secrets surrounding a mysterious injured horse and a threat to the local environment.
Created for television by Amy Shindler and Beth Chalmers (Pat & Cabbage, Pauline Pepys’ Dowry, My Family), Mystic is co-produced by Libertine Pictures and Slim Film + Television and was co-commissioned by U.K. children’s channel CBBC, Seven Networks in Australia and TVNZ in New Zealand. The series is distributed by Daro Film Distribution.
“Mystic is a great family co-viewing experience that we are excited to be bringing to our Heart & Home channel,” said Jackie Pardy, chief content officer at Super Channel, in a press release. “We are certain fans of When Calls the Heart and Heartland are going to embrace the series and its themes of family, friendship, self-discovery and environmentalism. Packed with action, adventure, humour and intrigue, Mystic will not only appeal to horse-mad teens or fans of the book series, but the whole family.”
After the series premiere on Super Channel Heart & Home on May 16, each episode will be available on Super Channel On Demand the day following its weekly linear broadcast.
