QUEBEC – The province of Quebec on Monday said DeryTelecom’s broadband upgrade to the Magdalen Islands is almost complete.
The $4 million project ($2 million from the company and the rest from the provincial and federal government) can now serve 5,539 homes on the islands (which are situated in the Gulf of St. Lawrence) and the release says DeryTelecom will have the remaining 133 homes connected “within a few weeks,” reads the French-language press release.
The project has seen the company add 43.5 kms of new fibre cable to its Magdalen Islands network and modernize more than 187 km of last-mile network.
The announcement was made by Gilles Bélanger, Quebec’s MLA for Orford and Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Economy and Innovation
