Launches this week:
Telus expands 4G LTE service in B.C. and Ontario, invests $265 million in Quebec
VANCOUVER – Over this past week, Telus announced the expansion of its 4G LTE wireless network service to communities in British Columbia and Ontario, as well as a $265 million investment in Quebec to augments its Optik TV and fibre-to-the-home network.
Telus said it is spending $300,000 to expand its 4G LTE wireless network service to Big White, Nelson, and Hudson’s Hope, B.C., with $100,000 allocated to each community. This investment is part of the $3 billion TELUS is investing in new infrastructure and facilities in B.C. from 2012 to 2014.
In Ontario, Telus announced on May 7 the latest launch of its 4G LTE wireless network service today to customers in Collingwood and Wasaga Beach.
The $265 million investment in Quebec, announced May 8, is part of Telus’s three-year commitment to invest $840 million from 2012 to 2014 in that province. The capital investment will be used to rollout the telco’s 4G LTE network to another 30 communities in 2013, expand its Optik TV service to 20 communities in the Quebec City, Gaspé, Côte-Nord and Lower St. Lawrence regions, and deploy its FTTH network in Rimouski.
MTS spends over $40 million on rural Manitoba networks
WINNIPEG – MTS announced on May 8 that it is spending more than $40 million on upgrades and enhancements to its rural Manitoba telecommunications infrastructure.
Part of the funds will also go towards expansion of MTS’s wireless and broadband technology to more Manitobans living in rural areas of the province.
MTS is expanding its 4G LTE wireless network to Portage la Prairie, Selkirk, Steinbach, Ste. Anne, Victoria Beach and Grand Beach, Man.
Bell Aliant rolls out home security service in Atlantic Canada communities
HALIFAX – On May 7, Bell Aliant announced the launch of its NextGen Home Security service to customers in Halifax, Sydney, St. John’s, Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton and Charlottetown, and will soon expand availability to other communities across Atlantic Canada.
Bell Aliant bundle customers can purchase the NextGen Home Security standard package for $34.95/month. It includes 24/7 professional security monitoring and remote management via web portal and mobile devices.
Primus expands broadband and voice network to 9 Toronto-area communities
TORONTO – Primus Canada announced on Monday the expansion of its broadband and voice network to nine communities around the Greater Toronto Area including Mississauga, Unionville, Aurora, Maple, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, and Woodbridge.
The expansion will be rolled out over the next two months, and marks a 15% increase in the number of homes and businesses currently on the Primus network.
