TORONTO – Most Canadians think smart, or internet-connected televisions, are the future, and are not all that enamoured with 3DTV.

According to a study from Toronto’s Solutions Research Group, 78% say smart TVs are the future compared to just 50% for 3D TV. The other half said of 3D: “it’s a fad.”

Forty-four percent of Canadians in the company’s Digital Life Canada survey done at the end of this past summer say they are interested in purchasing a smart TV, compared to just 27% interest in 3DTV. Most worrisome for 3D advocates is that while more Canadians report in 2011 they are aware of 3DTV (77% compared to 75% in 2010) fewer are interested in actually buying a 3D set (27% in 2011 vs. 32% in 2010).

And, according to the chart below, those who say they want to buy a smart TV “very soon” skews male, younger and family households.
