TORONTO – Wind Mobile launched in its sixth market Tuesday, flipping the switch on its wireless service in the Kitchener-Waterloo region of Ontario.

In addition to growing its coverage areas, Wind confirmed that it has begun rolling out network upgrades to 4G speeds (HSPA+ up to 21.1Mbps) to all customers at no additional cost. The company said that the upgrade will allow faster data access on smart phones and mobile Internet enabled devices such as netbooks, laptops, tablets – making services from video streaming to access to cloud-based data and other Internet services even more accessible.

“We are aggressively expanding and enhancing our network for the long haul,” said chairman and CEO Anthony Lacavera, in a statement. “Today’s announcement is our latest step in delivering on our commitment to Canadians to bring wireless change by offering excellent, innovative service at affordable prices.”

As part of its launch marketing in the region, Wind awarded a $10,000 community grant to Mosaic Counselling and Family Services’ Pathways to Education program for their mobile education project.
