OTTAWA – Janet Yale said that it just “seemed like a good time” to make the transition to politics from her 20 plus year career in the cable and telecom industries in Canada.
Yale, now on leave as the executive vice-president of corporate affairs for Telus, announced earlier this week that she is seeking the federal Liberal nomination for her home riding of Ottawa-Centre.
Well know to Cartt.ca readers through her roles at Telus, the now defunct Canadian Cable Telecommunications Association (CCTA), AT&T Canada and the CRTC, Yale said that her background and experience should prove invaluable as she enters the competitive world of politics.
“My work experience in the private and public sector have made me appreciate the contributions that this industry makes to the overall economy of this country”, she said in a telephone interview with Cartt.ca.
Citing her past experience and “track record of getting things done”, she called her move in to politics a “natural transition” from her extensive community work. Yale has chaired the United Way’s Leadership Table on Homelessness and has been involved in the arts and culture scene in Ottawa for many years.
Would she ever return to the biz?
“I have not thought beyond the nomination process and the election”, she said. “I have made a commitment to the Liberal party and to securing that seat, and am staying very focused on the present and on that goal”.
