TORONTO – Sports broadcast veteran Brian Williams will head up the 91 broadcasters and former Olympic athletes who will cover the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
English-language coverage will be spread over 11 television networks – including CTV, TSN, Rogers Sportsnet, Omni, and the Asian Television Network (ATN); 10 Rogers radio stations and the dedicated website CTVolympics.ca.
Among the Olympic medallists who will join in the coverage are figure skaters Jamie Salé, David Pelletier and Elizabeth Manley; cross-country skier Beckie Scott; speedskater Catriona Le May Doan and skier Karen Percy Lowe.
The French-language coverage will include another 50 hosts, play-by-play announcers, analysts, reporters and athletes who will appear on RDS, RIS Info-Sports, TQS and the Aboriginal People’s Television Network (APTN), plus website RDSolympiques.ca.
Olympians helping with French coverage are speedskater Gaetan Boucher; skiers Jean-Luc Brassard and Mélanie Turgeon; women’s hockey coach Danièle Sauvageau and figure skaters Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon.
For the first time in Canadian television, the main network (CTV) will use two studios rather than one. The main studio will be in Vancouver and a second location will be in Whistler.
The 2010 Winter Games will take place February 12 – 28, 2010. Vancouver is the third Canadian city to ever host the Olympics.
